Director of Foster Care Initiatives
Sheela Ramesh is an experienced advocate whose career has focused on advancing the wellbeing of vulnerable populations, particularly youth. She was a Skadden Fellow at Bay Area Legal Aid, where she provided direct civil legal assistance to and systemic advocacy for commercially sexually exploited youth and those at risk, and conducted dozens of trainings for agencies and community organizations across the Bay Area. Before joining BayLegal, Ramesh clerked for the Honorable Jeffrey Alker Meyer in the U.S. District of Connecticut. While in law school, she was a student director of two law clinics—one representing children in the dependency system and one litigating a statewide impact case for equitable and adequate public education—and spent her summers working at the Poverty & Race Research Action Council, the US Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, Jenner & Block LLP, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Ramesh holds a J.D. from Yale Law School.
