Youth Engagement Coordinator
Ayanna (“Yawnie”) Rasheed is a former foster youth and has served in a number of roles where she advocated on behalf of other foster youth and worked to improve the foster care system. Prior to joining Freedom FWD, she served as a Youth Advocate at WestCoast Children’s Clinic, where she advocated for youth in Team Decision Meetings and Transitional Living Conferences, worked to make paperwork for foster youth more friendly and approachable, educated new foster parents and child welfare workers on youth engagement, and sat on a number of committees to improve foster care. She also spoke on a panel hosted by New American Media about the school system in Juvenile Hall. In addition to her work with Freedom FWD to engage young people in our work, she is pursuing a degree in Psychology and hopes to work long-term with people in crisis.
